PSYCHOACTIVITY was founded in 1997 in Amsterdam to organize the fourth conference on new visionary plant research, shamanism and altered states of consciousness.
Our forerunners, independant scientists from Entheobotany, realized their vision of a stimulating exchange of information on entheogen-research, via biennal conferences. Our first PSYCHOACTIVITY conference was held at the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam in October 1998.
This conference was succesful beyond our wildest imagination. Participants still talk about the open atmosphere, which allowed informal meetings with the faculty, and about the quality of their presentations.
In 2001 we organized the very first conference ever held on Nepalese shamanism. This conference, divided into two weeklong seminars, took place in the Dhulikhel Mountain Resort in Nepal. Highlights of this conference were rituals and workshops held by Nepalese shamans from different ethnic groups.
In 2002 we organized the very first international conference on Ayahuasca in Europe. The PSYCHOACTIVITY III Ayahuasca Conferernce was held in Amsterdam with many international presenters and Southamerican shamans providing a huge range of expert informations.
In 2007 and 2008 PSYCHOACTIVITY organized one-week-seminars in Tuscany (Italy) on the purpose and meaning of rituals. The atmosphere of the site and the intensity of the nightly rituals struck our participants.
